Why? Because.
Do-ocracy: An organizational structure in which individuals choose roles and tasks for themselves and execute them. Responsibilities attach to people who do the work, rather than elected or selected officials.
A hackerspace is a DoOcracy. Meaning that things need to get done, and whomever does them gets the responsibility and the recognition of doing so. Now, we do have a board which helps guide the business side of things, but all things that happen in the space -- Projects, Discussions, Events -- happen because some member did it, not because it was mandated.
Things wouldn't work well being mandated, and hackers are not the type to be told what to do in the first place. So, do you want to see a hackerspace succeed? Do something about it. Donate Money. Do a project. Talk to others about the space. Do anything but sit there and do nothing.
